Every one of us is using science in our daily life. So, what is science? Maybe most of us haven't thought about it. We become familiar with the word science only when we start studying in school. But before that we don't know exactly what science is, what its types are, what it means and what its significance is.
The literal meaning of science is special knowledge.
Science is to find out the behavior, properties and nature of things based on
the knowledge that is obtained from systematic study of matter and objects
present in nature. Its area is very large, it includes various branches and
sub-branches. It is impossible to cover everything in one article. However, we
try to describe in detail what science is, with various examples. We
will also try to give you information about different branches of science.
What is Science Simple definition |
What is Science?
The word science is derived from the Latin word “Scientia”,
which means "knowledge". Science is a kind of special knowledge that
we get after continuous study and experimentation of things. It helps to know
in detail the principles, properties, and nature of things, hence this knowledge
is called special knowledge i.e. science.
When we study and acquire all information about anything
around us, there is evidence to verify every data associated with it, it is
called science. This is completely reversed by misconceptions and
superstitions.
In simple words, by studying and practicing something
on a continuous basis, what we gain about that thing is called science. There
is no deception in it, but you can prove practically anything related to it.
Whenever something is studied, then step by step data is collected about every
aspect of it. With the help of that data, any new person can easily understand
the quality of the object. Let us understand this with example.
Examples:
When we run and want to reach a particular distance, this
science can tell us how much delay we will have if we run continuously with one
speed. For this, we just have to use a formula and we will know easily. In this
way there is no scope of misunderstanding in this and with this we also get
evidence in the form of formula.
In this way, through this we write the information of
everything present around us and also understand the changes in its properties
occurring in different situations. Just like you know water very well that water
is life. Water found in 3 stages. Solid, Fluid and Gas, but if we do
not know science, we will not know what stage it will be.
Who is the father of science?
The father of ancient science was Thales (c. 624/623-c. 548/545 BC) and the father of modern science was Galileo Galilei (1564–1642). Galileo Galilei is also called the godfather of science.
Branches of science
Science encompasses the entire universe. There are so many
things that it is not possible to know everything about it even in thousands of
years. As human civilization developed, new discoveries began to be made. To
make it easier to study something, scientists have divided science into
different branches. Later those branches were also divided into different
sub-branches and this process is still going on.
We have been reading about the three parts of science in
school, physics, chemistry, and biology since childhood. These
are the main branches of science. It also has different sub-branches. As our
level of education increases, these sub-branches of science are also growing in
themselves.
1. Physics
Physics is one of the main branches of science. It is
a branch in which we study about any substance and energy. This is a very old
and wide branch.
The word Physics is derived from the Greek word meaning "Knowledge of Nature". In this we mainly analyze and understand about the natural phenomena of the universe. There are a lot of scientific rules in physics, which are statements used to describe an event that are constantly used and also verified.
Science Physics |
This is a very important and necessary part of the study. Those
who are physicists always experiment and study themselves and bring new rules
to the world and help in understanding the universe.
You must have heard about Newton's law of gravity,
that when Newton was sitting under a tree, an apple fell down and he wondered
why the apple did not go up. In this way, the force of gravity was discovered
and many other scientists also studied it and verified its truth.
This branch helps us understand many phenomena of the
universe and is the most basic part of science. It also acts as a foundation
for all types of science. Chemistry and biology is nothing without physics. It
is a special branch under which one gets to learn about many types of rules.

2. Chemistry
Chemistry is a branch of natural science in which it describes the properties and changes occurring and the rules that describe these changes.
Chemical compounds |
In this branch, a detailed study is made about the various
elements and the chemical compounds made of them. The studies were done in
this range from qualitative to quantitative, A chemist can work until
synthesize a new mixture used in medicine. But a physicist works up to its
microscopic level i.e. atomic and atomic level.
This includes works ranging from the discovery of new energy
to the manufacture of new nuclear weapons. Due to rapid development, the
world has undergone a major change. New medicines are being manufactured that
help treat various diseases wisely. There are many benefits, while the rapid
development of chemistry can also have a bad effect on nature. The simplest
example of this is global warming.
3. Biology
The branch of science to be studied about organisms
is called biology. We also know this by the name of biological science.
In this branch, studies are made about the structure, development, origin, function
and continuous development of organisms.
In biology, it is mainly learned about living systems, their
behavior with other organisms and their relationship with the natural
environment.
4 basic principles of modern biology are the cell
theory, the gene theory, the evolutionary theory, and the principle of
homeostasis. In the 19th century, a separate branch in the form of biology
was brought to the fore.
Scientists felt that this is not a small area, but new
information is being received every day in this and will continue to be found.
You will not find any such school or college in the world in
which education of this subject is not given. Most biologists become
specialists in one of their areas, but make new discoveries and get new
information throughout their lives.
Every year, millions of magazines are published on this
subject all over the world. You will be surprised to know that scientists know
about more than 1000 new species every year. So you might think that there are
still many creatures on the Earth about which none of us know anything.
It also has two branches, these are as follows:
a) Zoology
Animal science is the branch in which information is
collected about the classification of animals, their life history, physical
structure, food, and development.
b) Botany
Botany is the branch in which studies about trees, plant life,
the oxygen produced by them, their life cycle, and their effect on ecology. This is a
knowledge in which the living organism is taught.
Importance of science
Science has always played an important role in improving our
lives. It keeps on increasing our knowledge about the universe. No one has
fully understood its depth yet.
Because in this we have a lot of information that we can
only guess and we all know that science does not accept any fact as true until
it can gather practical evidence.
100 years ago, when a lot of
technology was not developed, there was superstition. People used to watch
every event with God. The disease that is easily treated today was a big
mystery at that time.
Today science has covered every moment of our life. The
importance of this should be understood that if you do not have electricity for
24 hours now, how you will feel. This will be a bad experience for you and you
will have suffered many times. Work is going on in factories for 24 hours, if
there is no electricity in them then there is a lot of damage.
Children studying in school and college are given science
education from the beginning. This led to the removal of superstitions and
learning every new technique. So, that they could later invent new technology
based on old scientific theory.
Advantages of Science
Science has lots of advantages. In a way, science is
included in every moment of our life. Some of its Advantages are tightened like
this.
Comfortable life: Science has made our life very comfortable
today. There are many inventions of this which help us live a comfortable life
for 24
hours. As in the summer and cold weather, with the help of A.C we live a
comfortable life.
Global Connectivity: This has made our world very small.
Earlier, we used to talk to relatives living far away by writing letters that
it takes months to reach. But today with the help of Facebook, WhatsApp,
Instagram, we can talk to online video chats anywhere.
Means of Transport: Today we are able to get to and from
anywhere with the help of bikes, cars, buses, trains and fast flights. All this
is the result of science.
Computer: The computer is an invention of science that connects us
to the whole world through various means. We do many tasks very easily and
quickly with the help of it, whether it is to solve math’s question or work
related to account or use it for studies only. In this, we do many things very
easily.
Modern treatment aids: Today there are many hospitals around
us where we treat the sick. Medical science is also able to cure the bad
injuries of an accident. Doctors today have successfully performed several
operations using robotic hands even when living in another city.
Dis-Advantages of science
While science has many benefits, it has some dis-advantages.
Some of its dis-advantages are tightened like this.
Nuclear Weapons: Until the Second World War, science had not
progressed so much that Nuclear power could be used. But today we are
living in the midst of nuclear weapons. A nuclear weapon is so deadly
that it can take over the entire world. That is, if there is a third world war,
then the world will be almost destroyed.
Dangerous Chemical: Today there are so many chemicals available
in markets that are used in vegetables. These are dangerous for our health. Due
to this chemical, the human digestive system has been greatly affected due to
which new types of diseases are also happening to people at a very young age.
Distance from relationships (lack of emotion): As people are
getting connected with devices, the distance from other people is increasing.
Today, instead of talking face to face, people prefer to talk through mobile
and computer. In this way, everyone's feelings are declining.
Misuse of science: Everyone's access to science has become
very easy. In this way, people's personal lives are getting destroyed. The
passing of high level technology into the hands of the wrong people causes a
great danger to other people.
Conclusion: Science has made our life very simple and
we have also become very accustomed to it gradually. Everyday new innovations
are fulfilling our many needs more easily.
