What is Chemical Compounds |
So far more than 108 elements have been found in the universe and some new elements are under research. Each element is specified by scientists with a unique symbol consisting of one, two or three letters that are either made up of the current element name or its original (often Latin) name. For example, the symbols carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are C, H and O respectively. The symbol for iron is from the original Latin name of Ferrum.
The basic principle of chemistry is that atoms of different
elements can combine with each other to form chemical compounds. For example,
methane, which is composed of elements of carbon and hydrogen in the ratio of
four hydrogen atoms for each carbon atom, is called a specific CH4 molecule.
The formula of a compound — such as CH4 — indicates the type of
atoms present, with Membership representing the relative numbers of atoms
(although digit 1 is never written).
Simple Definition of Chemical Compounds
Chemical compounds are pure chemical substances
consisting of two or more different chemical elements in a
stoichiometric ratio that can be divided into simple substances by chemical
reactions. Chemical compounds have a unique and defined chemical
composition; it consists of a fixed ratio of atoms held together in a spatial
arrangement defined by chemical bonds.
Chemical compounds can be complex compounds formed by covalent
bonds, molecular compounds collected by covalent bonds, inter-metallic
compounds held together by metal bonds, or complexes united by coordination
covalent bonds. Pure chemical elements are not considered chemical
compounds, even though they consist of molecules that contain multiple atoms of
only one element (e.g. H2, S8, etc.), called diatomic
molecules or multifunctional molecules.
All substances in the universe are made up of atoms of
various elements, which are found both in pure form and in chemical compounds
combined. A sample of any pure element is made up of only the atoms of that
element, and the atoms of each element are unique. For example, the atom that
forms carbon is different from the atom that makes iron.

Some examples of chemical compounds
For example, water is a chemical compound made up of oxygen
and hydrogen atoms. In this, hydrogen and oxygen are mixed in the ratio of two
hydrogen atoms for each oxygen atom. That is, there are H2O
molecules. Fine acid sodium chloride, which consists of a 1: 1 ratio of
sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Although the formula of sodium chloride is NaCl,
the compound does not contain actual NaCl molecules. Rather, it has the same
number of sodium ions with a charge of positive ions (Na +) and chloride ions
with a charge of negative ions (Cl−). The above-mentioned substances are
examples of two different types of chemical compounds: first molecular
(covalent) and secondly ionic. Here water is made up of molecules; namely they are
molecular compounds. Sodium chloride, on the other hand, has its ions; It is an
ionic compound.
How many chemical compounds are there?
By august 2020, around sixty million
chemical compounds have been identified. Still there is a myriad of unknown
chemical compounds in the universe. The names of many of the identified
compounds are often nontrivial and are therefore not very easy to remember or
cite correctly.

Types of chemical compounds
There are three types of chemical compounds in particular,
these are given below.
Ionic Compounds: Compounds made of ions are known as
ionic compounds. These ions are electrons that gain or lose atoms, which have a
net positive or negative charge. For example, Nacl
Molecular Compounds: A compound formed by sharing the
atoms of a molecule is a molecular compound. It is also known as inorganic
compound. For example, water (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) can be taken.
Instead of forming ions, the atoms of a molecule share their electrons in such
a way that a bond is formed between pairs of atoms.
Acidic Compounds: The compounds that separate into
water to donate ions / protons or accept electrons are acid compounds. For example, Acetic Acid, Boric Acid, Carbonic Acid,
Citric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid etc.
